Below is a response to Barry McLaren regarding possible sewage contamination coming into the burn near our estate
Dear Mr McLaren
Thank you for your patience whilst I liaised with my colleagues in Sewer Response in order to investigate the points raised in your complaint in further detail.
I can understand your concerns and appreciate how frustrating and distressing this matter has been for you.
As you will already be aware through previous correspondence with your MSP, our Flood Team are aware of instances of external sewer flooding at Dalvait Road. This area has been identified as a high priority on our list for external sewer flooding.
Our sewer response team attended to Dalvait Road on 24/02/26 to check the manhole in question and confirmed it was running clear and that no issues were found. However I do understand that the floods occur during times of heavy rainfall when the river/burn also overflows.
I understand you have requested that Scottish Water attend and take a sample to confirm if there is any sewage contamination residue from the flood which occurred on 7 October 2023.
This flood was not reported to Scottish Water at the time but, any water emanating from this flood would have been very diluted due to heavy rain overwhelming the sewer at the same time.
Please note that it would only be possible for a sample to be taken is if there is enough residue water under your property to allow a sample to be taken. Any leftover sewage residue would be dried out by now.
However, I would be happy to arrange for one of our operatives to attend to your property and meet with you to view the area in question and carry out a disinfection of the area if required.
If this is something which you would like me to arrange please confirm by return and provide a few suitable dates/times for this.
I trust this information is helpful and look forward to hearing back from you.
Kind Regards
Pauline
