Flood Prevention Update
- At the recent meeting regarding flood prevention solutions several options were discussed and it was decided that Option 2, removal of the culvert and strengthening the bank was the best as it was the most cost-effective and beneficial to us. The work will be in two parts and a consultant is to be employed to complete a detailed design.
- Barry has been dealing with Scottish Water re the sewage covers overflowing on Dalvait Road during heavy rain. The main sewer has been cleared earlier this year but it hasn’t made any difference. Barry will continue to liaise with Scottish Water.
Estate Improvements
- Over the summer work has been undertaken by some of the residents to improve the outlook of the estate, namely painting the fence in Levenhowe Place and the spraying and clearing of weeds at the kerbside and pavements of the entire estate. Our thanks to all those involved.
- There has been damage to kerbs and some drains. Lisa Sloan contacted the Council and amazingly they came out within a few days and did the repairs.
Traffic
- Cars and delivery vans have been coming into the estate too fast, and vehicles are being parked too near the junction to Levenhowe Place obstructing the exit. We can’t do anything to the road as it has been adopted by the Council so any changes or work to the roads has to be done by them.
- After some discussion it was decided that we could put signs up on the grass area requesting drivers to drive carefully and inform them that children play there and at the same time direct visitors and delivery drivers to the correct streets mainly as there has been quite a few misdirected deliveries recently.
- It was also discussed whether we should put signs up requesting drivers to park responsibly at the junction of Levenhowe Place. It was decided that we would approach the owner of the corner house if the tree covering the 20 mph sign at the entrance of the estate could be cut back. The Council cut the tree back the very next day. The sign now only needs cleaning.
- Denis Blackwood has costed signs and has put up options for residents to choose which they prefer.
Next Year’s Estate Improvements
- It was discussed whether we should do work on the burn bank. It was decided that we should wait and see what the council do first. Denis agreed to contact Heatherdale to see what progress they have made in repairing the burn wall..
- We also need to look at methods of alleviating water build up on the Scottish Water land. After discussing what we could do it was decided to get in touch with Scottish Water and Barry was happy to continue to do this.
- Jim proposed getting a defibrillator installed on the estate. Denis has applied to the British Heart Foundation to get one. As it requires a power source Barry has offered to have it mounted at his house. Since the meeting this has been approved and training will be provided to those who wish it.
- It was also put forward that the dead tree in the Place should be removed or at least cut back.
- It was also put forward that the monoblocking in the Place should be cleaned. Denis and Alan will look at that.
AOB
- There was a discussion re the storage of equipment. Steven McLeod agreed to store the street owned equipment.
- Road markings on Dalvait Road and the estate have not been replaced or redone since the road was retarred. Denis is going to write to Liam Green regarding this matter.
- With the number of extensions being built and the amount of double fencing, this is causing blockages and water to build up. For those homes with double fencing, would it be possible to have part of the fence single or install a gate to let water out and so alleviate the problem? However, the main thing to help us would be the removal of the culvert.
- There is once again a build up of foliage in the burn; the Council will be contacted, but if they do nothing, a burn clearance will be needed next year.
- Jim Donnelly has taken over from Steven Lawson as Deputy Chair. We thank Steven for his input and welcome Jim to the Board!
